Italian forces conduct 24-hour CBRN exercise at experimental nuclear plant
A group of Italian forces have conducted a joint 24-hour CBRN exercise at a former experimental nuclear power plant near Latina, Italy.
In posts on Facebook and X, it was reported that teams from the 7th CBRN regiment "Cremona" of the Italian army, the navy, the Carabinieri's environmental protection division and technicians from SOGIN - the Italian state owned company responsible for decommissioning nuclear power plants - took part in the "Maritime Combat Advance Training" exercise.
The scenario involved a radiological emergency and a contaminated area, with wounded people needing to be evacuated. The amphibious assault unit SanGiorgio served as the command platform.
The navy said in their posts that the exercise consolidated their "operational readiness and capacity to intervene in scenarios with high complexity, in which speed of action, interoperability, competence and coordination with civilian realities are decisive".
