Lithuania buys over €320,000 of CBRN protective equipment for healthcare institutions
Lithuania has announced that its Ministry of National Defence has purchased more than €323,000 of CBRN protective equipment for the country's healthcare institutions.
In an announcement published on the website of the country's Ministry of Health, it was revealed that the equipment is currently being stored in warehouses of the Lithuanian Armed Forces before the Ministry of Health transfers them to healthcare institutions.
Deputy minister of health, Skirmantas Krunkaitis, said: "The country's healthcare system is one part of the emergency preparedness and universal defence model, and therefore it is very important to strengthen preparedness for a coordinated response to the consequences caused by crises, so that we can be assured of uninterrupted emergency medical care for civilians and military personnel, evacuation of the wounded, treatment and psychological support — which is why stocks of protective equipment are essential for every medical institution."
On his part, deputy minister of national defence, Tomas Godliauskas said: "Acquiring measures designed to provide protection in the event of a CBRN incident guarantees that during critical moments our medical personnel will be protected and will be able to ensure the admission and treatment of patients even in the presence of a risk of chemical, biological or radiological exposure."
"This strategic initiative to supply such inventory increases the preparedness of the network of personal healthcare institutions, strengthens staff confidence in their own safety and allows for the systematic development of crisis-resilient healthcare capabilities tailored to real threats."
