One man killed in landmine incident in Ashagi Veysalli, Azerbaijan
One man has been killed in a landmine incident in the village of Ashagi Veysalli in Azerbaijan's Khojavend region on 12 March.
According to a statement released by the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General's Office, Ramiz Hajiyev, born in 1968, was killed as a result of his horse stepping on an anti-tank mine while grazing animals.
The southwestern regions of Azerbaijan are among the most contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war in the world due to a prolonged conflict with Armenia, which came to an end following a peace agreement signed between the two countries on 8 August 2025.
ANAMA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the General Prosecutor's Office have urged citizens to strictly adhere to safety rules, pay attention to mine danger signs, avoid entering unfamiliar or potentially hazardous areas and not interfere in areas where fencing activities are being carried out.
