Taliban says 87 killed, 333 injured by landmines, explosive remnants in Afghanistan in 2025
The Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority reported on Wednesday 4 February that at least 87 people were killed and 333 others injured due to landmine and explosive remnants blasts in 2025 across the country.
In a video message posted on X, spokesperson Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad said that a total of 193 explosion incidents resulting from mine detonations and unexploded ordnance were recorded across Afghanistan over the past year, with 67.5 percent of the total casualties were children.
Despite clearance operations that removed hazards from 58 square kilometres of land during the same period, Hamad noted that more than 106,000 square kilometres of Afghan territory remains contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war.
Afghanistan is one of the world's most severely affected nations by explosive remnants of war, with the United Nations recently ranking the country third globally for casualties caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
