Two policemen killed, 31 injured in IED attack in Wana, Pakistan
Two policemen have been killed and 31 people injured - including five policemen and 26 civilians - in an IED explosion at a bazaar in Wana, South Waziristan, Pakistan, on Saturday 7 March.
According to police officials via the Pakistani outlet Dawn, the explosion occurred when policemen on routine patrol were present in the area around 17:00.
Wana Circle deputy superintendent of police Asghar Ali Shah said that the explosive material had been planted at the main entrance of the supermarket and was detonated through a remote control or a timed device.
"Immediately after the blast, local residents, police personnel and rescue teams initiated relief operations and moved the injured to the district headquarters hospital," Dawn online newspaper reported.
The medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Jan Mohammad, said that the bodies of two policemen were brought to the facility. Five other policemen were among the 31 injured, with the remaining 26 including the elderly, young people and children, with some requiring immediate medical treatment.
