The World Health Organization (WHO) recently delivered a three-day, hands-on training on chemical and radiological incident response at the regional clinical hospital in Kharkiv.

In a post on LinkedIn announcing the training, WHO said that participants practised using radiation monitoring devices and conducting contamination surveys, correctly putting on and taking off radiological and chemical protective equipment, managing patients exposed to radiological and chemical substances, and establishing hospital-based decontamination zones.

"Twenty-seven doctors, nurses, engineers, civil protection specialists and hospital administrators worked side by side to strengthen practical skills that directly enhance patient and staff safety during emergencies," the announcement said.

The activity was funded by the European Union, through the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission, as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce health security and CBRN preparedness in Ukraine.
