A total of 90 people from 50 houses were evacuated from the area after a tanker carrying some 30,000 litres of liquified petroleum gas crashed in a rural village north of Bucharest, Romania, on Saturday night 4 April.

According to the Prahova County Police Inspectorate, the tanker is understood to have crashed into a concrete electricity pole and overturned on the road while passing through Ciorani.

Traffic was stopped in both directions as firefighting crews, specialist medical personnel, a CBRN team and others responded to the incident.

90 people from 50 houses in the village within a 1,000-metre radius of the crashed tanker were evacuated due to the risk of explosion, however no leaks of LPG were identified and firefighters completed their mission after some 12 hours, according to the local outlet Observatul Prahovean.

Road traffic through the village resumed under normal conditions at around 07:20 the following morning.

On 23 February 2026, another gas tanker overturned in Romania's Sibiu County, to which the Romanian Inspectorate for Emergency Situations mobilised three firefighting trucks and two medical specialist crews.
