The United States Capability Program Executive for CBRN Defense (CPE CBRND) has approved an urgent materiel release of CBRN unmanned aerial system kits to US Indo-Pacific Command.

Posting on LinkedIn on Monday 13 April, CPE CBRND wrote: "This is a significant achievement for our Joint Project Manager for Integrated Early Warning team and rapidly delivers an unmanned aerial system with chemical, biological and radiological sensors to the Joint Force in alignment with US Army strategy.

"Securing this urgent material release approval demonstrates our commitment and agility in delivering on army modernisation priorities and accelerating biodeterrence in the US Indo-Pacific Command region."

Materiel release process

In the US army, the materiel release process is intended to ensure that materiel is safe, meets operational requirements and is logistically supportable before release to users.

Urgent releases, such as the one above, are, according to a document from 2002, given on an "extremely limited basis under circumstances where an item is needed to meet an immediate operational requirement, such as a contingency operation".
