The French producer of CBRN defence equipment, KNDS CBRN, has announced three new orders of gas masks and decontamination systems from the French Defence Procurement Agency.

Announced during the inaugural Brussels European Defense Exhibition & Conference (BEDEX 2026), the order comes from KNDS CBRN's "Essential Decon" range.

More specifically, the French Defence Procurement Agency has ordered the first models of the new TGM48 gas mask to equip the French armed forces. The previous generation of masks had been continuously produced at KNDS CBRN facilities for 35 years, and the new TGM48 gas mask was certified for industrial production in 2025.

Decontamination systems

The two decontamination systems ordered by the French Defence Procurement Agency along with the Union of Public Purchasing Groups, are the "Essential Decon L-01" and "Essential Decon S-04".

The Essential Decon L-01 is a high-capacity autonomous decontamination system on a truck equipped with a platform for decontaminating vehicles and infrastructure. By the beginning of 2028, 21 L-01 systems will be deployed by the French army to decontaminate Griffon, Jaguar and Serval vehicles, among others, supplied by KNDS France to the armed forces.

The Essential Decon S-04 is an autonomous, self-supporting decontamination system designed for CBRN decontamination of aircraft. With its high-reach platform, the S-04 version provides a solution tailored to the needs of the French air and space force. The first systems will be delivered by the beginning of 2028.

The "Essential Decon" range of equipment was developed by KNDS CBRN using its own funds and "reflects the context of a wartime economy, enabling rapid production at high speed and at a controlled overall cost", according to information published by European Defence Review

"The components in the range, designed to withstand demanding environments, offer increased robustness that is perfectly suited to operational needs."
