Multiple IEDs discovered in metal case in Boulder County, Colorado
Multiple IEDs were found in a metal case by a passer-by in Boulder County, Colorado, USA, on Sunday, 19 April.
In a statement posted on their website, Boulder County said that they received a call just after 08:00 on 19 April regarding a suspicious item located near Ponderosa Way in unincorporated Boulder County. The reporting person discovered a metal case near the roadway, and upon opening the case they saw what appeared to be multiple IEDs.
Technicians from the Boulder County regional bomb squad responded, identifying five suspected homemade IEDs inside the case that "had components consistent with potentially functioning devices".
"Out of an abundance of caution, a shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding neighbourhood at approximately 12:00," Boulder County wrote.
"As of 19:00, bomb technicians reported the devices were safely transferred into a containment trailer. The devices were transported to a secure location where bomb technicians will further inspect and conduct disposal procedures of the devices. Until disposal is complete, investigators will not be able to definitively determine the functionality of the devices," they added.
The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after 19:00 once officials determined the threat to nearby residences had been mitigated.
