Nigerian police recover over 300 IEDs, 75 arrested for kidnapping and murder

Nigerian police in the southern state of Imo have recovered over 300 IEDs, arrested 75 people and killed two further suspects in an operation throughout February and March. This is according to the local outlet PM News Nigeria.

Speaking about the operation on Wednesday 18 March at police headquarters in Owerri, the commissioner of police, Audu Bosso, said that the raid on a camp linked to the proscribed groups Indigenous People of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network took place in an area known as "Mother Valley".

The raid was carried out with the support of the military and other security agencies in Orsu local government area. The police recovered explosives, gas cylinders, pipes and five vehicles from the camp.

Bosso also said that 75 people were arrested for crimes such as kidnapping and murder. AK-47 rifles, ammunition, magazines, locally made pistols, a Beretta pistol and six stolen motorcycles were among the other objects recovered.

"The police commissioner said crime has reduced in the state and assured residents of tight security, especially during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration," reported PM News Nigeria. He also advised people to follow traffic rules and share useful information with the police to help keep the state safe.
