Respirex GTR protective suits were spotted during a Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service training in north-east England earlier this month.

Crews from Hexham, Bellingham and Allendale joined forces for a hazardous materials exercise at Hexham Auction Mart. The training scenario centred around a chemical leak from a tanker, and "gas tight suits and breathing apparatus were used for a snatch rescue and to contain the leak", according to the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.

"Full decontamination procedures were carried out, and our teams practiced using emergency air supply equipment to stay safe," they added.

Having spotted their suits in photos shared from the exercise, Respirex said they were "proud to see our GTR suits being put to the test in training with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service".

"Rigorous training like this is essential and having the right protective equipment makes all the difference. Our GTR is a fully encapsulating Type 1A-ET gas-tight suit, engineered to protect emergency teams operating in environments that are immediately dangerous to life and health," the company on LinkedIn.

"It is built for reliability under pressure so that responders can focus on the task at hand. With over six decades of expertise in specialist PPE, Respirex is proud to support the emergency services community."
