US Air Force, Air National Guard takes part in high-intensity CBRN training in Wisconsin

Over 50 US airmen and 13 units from the Air National Guard Region V participated in the CBRN High-intensity Operational Preparedness North 2026 exercise at Volk Field Air National Guard Base, Wisconsin, on 15-22 April 2026.

According to information published by DVIDS, emergency management exercises for Region V, this iteration of the exercise was broken down into two major foci: base defence emergency management planning and base defence operations, and small team tactics.

The exercise provided "fine-tuned, realistic and cost-effective training for Region V Air National Guard units", which including teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, according to DVIDS. Training covered hazard identification, manual plotting, equipment familiarisation, decontamination operations, land navigation, combat skills, physical fitness and mental fitness.

The full-scale exercise and culminating event took place at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, and included emergency operations centre operations, CBRN control cell operations, reconnaissance teams for hazard identification, operations under limited communications, recovery after attack, site survey and assessment, close quarters combat and individual mission command.
