A joint CBRN exercise between the University Hospital Olomouc and the regional fire rescue service took place in the morning of Thursday 16 April.

According to information published by the university, the exercise aimed to verify the hospital's procedures for mass admission of patients and their initial triage, as well as chemical, biological or radiological decontamination of patients. The exercise included the practical deployment of a decontamination unit, from loading and commissioning to its operation directly at the emergency department.

The activity is part of a multi-year international project of the World Health Organization and the European Commission focused on healthcare systems' preparedness for CBRN threats.

Olomouc University Hospital has been involved in the project since October 2024 following a decision made by the Czech Ministry of Health. Further exercises will follow this year, including in autumn 2026 with the involvement of other components of the Czech integrated rescue system and the Czech Army.
